DandDoke
A downloadable game
A Freeform Fantasy RPG
for adults to play pretend in public
"I woke up in New Orleans, and was thinking of my two options for later that night. I could either go to my friend's Karaoke night that she hostessed, or go to my other friends' D&D campaign. 'Why must we make such a cruel choice, couldn't we play D&D AND do Karaoke?' I asked myself. Thus was born DandDoke."
A lot of people want to play D&D these days, or at least they think they do. This might be because it's been having a resurgence on popular TV shows, Twitch streams, actual-play podcasts or just because it's in the cultural zeitgeist. Unfortunetly the barriers to actually playing a TTRPG are much higher than many would expect. Such barriers include; difficulty finding a non-toxic gaming community, the high learning curve of most TTRPGs, the basic logistics of organizing a campaign or even outright gatekeeping.
We hope to show people who have been alienated from the TTRPG world that they have all the tools to play the games they want to. DandDoke as a system is nothing new or exciting, but it is incredibly simple while still holding onto the signature features of fantasy TTRPGS that attract people to the hobby in the first place. By making the game in public we hope to reduce the commitment required to play. Most ambitiously, we endeavor to cultivate a non-toxic gaming culture.
Karaoke is a well known ritual that encourages apprehensive people to sing, even if they're not the best singers in the world, but because it is fun to try. DandDoke strives to create a similiar environment, but for public improvisational roleplaying.
I hope you have fun playing(or just reading) this game.
